this is a stylized boater, done in the shape of a mannish straw hat popular during the era. With the rolled brim, and the period silk trim, the shape is a throwback to the Suffragettes. Post WWI , early 1920’s in a wearable size ( approx 23"). this straw has ozydized a bitbut it’s still noticeably black. The original trim is a print, reminiscent of artist prints of the day, with a slight leaning towards paisley. the colors are tan, purple, navy, ochre, burgundy, green, slate blue. The interior is labelled: W. C. Keen., Keen Building, 659 Boylston St., Boston, under the lining, which is black silk, still completely intact.
